Hazard and Event Risks 

  • In Colombia, a terrorist attack was reported last week at Francisco Paula deSantander Police Academy located in southern Bogota. 
  • Also last week, a terrorist attack took place in Kenya at the d2Dusit business compound in Kileleshwa, Nairobi.
  • In theU.S., Winter Storm Gia which affected states from Colorado across to Maryland last week, has resulted in at least 12 deaths due to weather-related crashes.

Operational and Physical Risks

  • In Mexico last week, the Federal Attorney for the Consumer conducted a study of gas stations located in the states of Aguascalientes, Mexico State, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacan, Nayarit, Tlaxcala, Queretaro, Mexico City, and Zacatecas. 
  • On Thursday last week, the Tunisia General Labor Union, or UGTT, carried out a nation wide industrial action, in which 670,000 public servants participated.
  • In Canada, members of the Unifor autoworkers union announced their intentions to hold a rally in Dieppe Gardens, a park across the river fromDetroit, Michigan in the U.S. 

Technology and Information Risks

  • In New Zealand, the Cryptopia exchange site was taken down after registering a malicious attack last week.
  • In the U.S., cyber-security researchers from UpGuard identified last week the exposure of approximately three terabytes of data from the Oklahoma Department of Securities, which occurred late last year.
  • Last week, a cybersecurity researcher discovered a vulnerability in the flight booking systems powered by the Amadeus system, which is used by 141 airlines around the world, including major carriers such as Lufthansa and United Airlines.

Market and Economic Risks

  • In Japan, a recent study published by a research group belonging to the Health,Labor, and Welfare Ministry indicates that the available Japanese work force will decline by 20% in 2040. 
  • In the EU, the European Commission’s statistics office Euro stat, published a report last week where it showed that during November 2018 eurozone production declined rapidly.
