Hazard and Event Risks 

  • Last week in Brazil, a group of criminals set a school on fire in the town of Itarema, in the coastal state of Ceara, making it the fourth attack that has taken place in Ceara in the past week. 
  • The Office for National Statistics reported last week that crime rates in the United Kingdom show worrying trends due to the increase in violent crimes. 
  • In Venezuela, a military unit of 21 members of the National Bolivarian Guard, a branch of the Venezuelan Armed Forces, rebelled recently in the city of Caracas after betraying their division; so far there have been no casualties reported. 

Operational and Physical Risks

  • In Chile, leaders from the Gabriela Mistral Division last week rejected Codelco’s offer to renew the collective agreement that would cover activities through to 2020. 
  • The South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport announced recently that the German automaker BMW will issue a recall for at least 20,000 vehicles as they were found to have a faulty intake manifold; 79,000 more are still under inspection for a possible recall. 
  • Over in the U.K, unionized workers of the Arriva Rail North, or A-R-N,  announced that they would continue to take industrial actions over the permanence of guards in trains. 

Technology and Information Risks

  • Security researchers at RiskIQ in France recently reported a new group as part of the Magecart collective which recently targeted French advertising agency Adverline. 
  • Last week, an independent security researcher was able to locate a database that contained around 24 million documents liked to loans and mortgages from several financial institutions in the United States that dated back to 2008. 
  • Security researchers from Palo Alto Networks and 360 Threat Intelligence Center discovered last week that the hacker group DarkHydrus APT is using Google Drive as its command and control server, often referred to as C-2.

Market and Economic Risks

  • In recent days, Soul High Court in South Korea ratified a ruling against the Japanese company Nachi-Fujikoshi Corp. 
  • Last week in China, an official of the Chinese Environment Ministry stated that the government would enforce stricter punishments and fines to entities that miss air quality targets. 
  • The U.S. government recently claimed that current Indian regulatory policies on e-commerce will affect foreign investment plans, particularly those of Amazon and Walmart.
