Hazard and Event Risks 

  • It was recently reported that a ferry hit the Ala Viaria Bridge in Para State, Brazil.
  • South Korean authorities reported earlier this month that more than 4,000 people were forced to evacuate due to the wildfires affecting the eastern area of the Gangwon Province, which have spread to the cities of Sokcho and Gangneung.
  • Last week in Sudan, media reports indicate that after months of protests, the Sudanese armed forces successfully organized a coup to remove President Omaral-Bashir, who had been in power for 30 years.

  • Per reports earlier this month, a security researcher addressed a vulnerability in Xiaomi’s MI and Mint browsers for non-Xiaomi Android devices.
  • As disclosed last week, Symantec Corp, an American company that provides cyber-security software and services, released a study which compiles information from more than 1,500 websites from hotels in 54 countries.

  • Last week, China’s National Audit Office alarmed over a surge of dangerous debt at small banks across the nation; particularly, in the Henan province, where as much as 40% of the debt was labeled as dangerous the past year.
  • Last week, President Donald Trump declared that the U.S. would likely impose tariffs worth 11 billion dollars US on EU products from industries such as aircraft manufacturing and agriculture. 
  • It was reported recently that the Puerto Rican government passed a law, called the EnergyPublic Policy Act, to shift its economy into renewable energy production.
