Hazard and Event Risks 

  • Recently in Honduras, thousands of citizens called by the Platform for Defense of Health and Education protested for 48 hours at Tegucigalpa, blocking main avenues. 
  • In Sudan, it was reported last week that armed paramilitaries belonging to the Rapid Support Forces attacked a sit-in protest in Khartoum.
  • The Democratic Republic of the Congo is suffering its second-worst outbreak of Ebola infections, as the number of cases has reached 2,000 since August 2018, when the outbreak started.

  • In the UK, media reports announced recently that the environmental activist’s group, Extinction Rebellion, has warned that they will use drones to disrupt London’s Heathrow Airport’s operations during this summer. 
  • As reported earlier this month in Albania, opposition supporters demanding PrimeMinister Edi Rama’s resignation, clashed with the police by using firecrackers, stones, and Molotov bombs throughout Tirana. 
  • In Ukraine last week, hundreds of citizens protested about the death of a 5-year-old who was shot dead on May 31 by two police officers in Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky, Kyiv region. 

Technology and Information Risks

  • In the U.S. last week, Checker and Rally’s Restaurants company disclosed that hackers broke into their system, installed malware on their payments system, and stole the credit card information of its customers. 
  • Information regarding Patrick Wardle of Digita Security’s discovery of a security bypass for macOS was made available last week. 
  • As reported earlier this month, Quest Diagnostics, a clinical laboratory company located in the U.S., Mexico, Brazil, the U.K., and India, was hacked, possibly compromising the personal information of 12 million clients. 

Market and Economic Risks

  • It was reported last week that Italy is risking a disciplinary procedure from theEuropean Commission, due to its excessive public debt, budget deficit, and a non-committal response from its Economy Minister. 
  • Last week, the Chinese State Administration for Market Regulation stated thatChangan-Ford, the leading joint venture of the country, integrated by FordMotor Company and Changan Automobile, would be fined 24 million dollars US for the violation of local anti-monopoly laws.
  • It’s been reported that after the European Central Bank meeting earlier this month, the president of the financial institution Mario Draghi, announced that interest rates would remain low until the beginning of 2020.
