Hazard and Event Risks 

  • Recently, Argentina’s President Mauricio Macri’s  administration released a list of terrorist groups, an action not taken by previous Argentine administrations. 
  • Last week in Mexico, a shooting was reported in an upscale shopping mall in southwestern Mexico City.

  • Greenpeace activists attempted to prevent Boris Johnson’s vehicle from entering the gate at Buckingham Palace, as the newly elected prime minister was arriving to meet with Queen Elizabeth last week. 
  • As reported on earlier this month, truckload freight volumes are increasing, and shippers and importers operating in the southwestern border of the U.S. are bracing for more congestion due to insufficient infrastructure, the US-China trade dispute, and stricter migration controls.
  • As reported on July 22, 2019, the International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners , or Intercargo, is concerned about the very limited supply of bunker fuels that comply with the International Maritime Organization Marpol Annex VI regulation. 

Technology and Information Risks

  • Security researchers have recently found that Chrome and Firefox extensions were collecting user data from 45 major companies, such as Apple, Walmart, Amazon, Palo Alto Networks, SpaceX, and Skype. 
  • As reported on July 21, Google is sending teams of employees into the streets of a number of cities, who approach people and ask random people if they are willing to help the company improve facial recognition technology for phone unlocking by taking numerous selfies with phones the team members provide. 
  • Media outlets reported last week that cyber-security experts from Gigamon Applied Threat Research detected a new malware from FIN8, a financially-motivated cyber-criminal organization, which targets point-of-sale devices to steal credit card information.
