Hazard and Event Risks 

  • Last week in Somalia at the Baledogle Military Airfield Complex, a joint base where U.S. special forces are stationed, and an Italian military convoy were hit in separate but coordinated attacks. 
  • In the Philippines, The Red Cross warned about the alarming re-emerging of the virus of polio last week, although it was eradicated from the Philippines 19 years ago. 
  • According to Iraq's Human Rights Commission 28 people are dead, about 1,000 injured, and 62 arrested after three days of mass protests against the government in Iraq last week.

  • Last week, the President of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, declared the country was in a state of exception condition due to several disruptive protests that are taking place nationwide.

  • As reported on last week in the U.S., a 34-year-old former Yahoo employee pleaded guilty to breaking into 6,000 user accounts, including those of co-workers and friends, to obtain sexual images and videos of young women.
  • Open sources reported last week that the GandCrab organization developed the new REvil ransomware despite that the cyber-criminals allegedly ceased operations in May 2019.

  • In Mexico last week, it was reported that Ford Montes, one the leading Ford dealership in the municipality of Celaya, Guanajuato state has closed due to area crime. 
  • Goldman Sachs Group Inc.released a statement last week in which they declared that according to their estimates, between 3 and 4 billion U.S. dollars have been moved from Hong Kong to Singapore since August 2019 due to the ongoing unrest.
  • The fashion merchant, Forever21 Inc., filed for bankruptcy protection last week, due to high rents, heavy competition, and the shift to e-commerce among traditional retailers.
